Highlights from the Survey
The vast majority of patients don’t receive a tick-borne infection diagnosis based on their bullseye rash or early symptoms from their primary healthcare provider.
Of those that went on to develop chronic symptoms:
- Over 80% of respondents reported having their capacity to work impaired as a result of tick-borne infection
- Over half of the patients experienced suicidal thoughts due to unmanageable pain and disability
- Over 60% of respondents were not able to independently manage the cost of treatment, as this illness is not covered by the Canadian Healthcare System
